The race is on to fill a vacant seat on the Fourth District Court of Appeal.
Chief Palm Beach Circuit Judge Peter Blanc, nine other circuit judges and eight lawyers sent applications to the Judicial Nominating Commission to replace Judge Fred Hazouri, who will retire Jan. 7.
The circuit judges include Jack Cox, Glenn Kelley, Janis Keyser and Krista Marx of Palm Beach County; John Murphy III and Carol-Lisa Phillips of Broward; Robert Belanger and Elizabeth Metzger of Okeechobee; and Mark Klingensmith of St. Lucie.
Also sending resumes were Alan Forst, chief executive and chief administrative officer of the state's Reemployment Assistance Appeals Commission, who lives in Palm City; family law attorney Peggy Rowe-Linn, a solo practitioner in West Palm Beach; Assistant Broward County Attorney James Rowlee; commercial law attorney Ann St. Peter-Griffith of Kasowitz, Benson, Torres & Friedman in Miami; appellate attorney Richard Valuntas of Rosenbaum Mollengarden in West Palm Beach; and Sylvia Wenger, law clerk and administrator to U.S. District Judge Donald Middlebrooks in West Palm Beach.
Two recent applicants to replace Palm Beach Circuit Judge John Hoy also applied for the Hazouri opening: appellate attorney Donna Greenspan Solomon, a solo practitioner in Fort Lauderdale; and commercial law attorney Manuel Farach, who is of counsel at Richman Greer in West Palm Beach.
