Three Broward County general magistrates are on a list of 21 applicants vying for the seat being vacated by Circuit Judge David Krathen.
General Magistrates Randi Glick Boven, Phoebe R. Francois and Giuseppina Miranda submitted their names to the Broward Circuit Judicial Nominating Commission.
County Court Judge John D. Fry in the Deerfield Beach courthouse also is looking for a promotion.
Assistant State Attorneys Morgan Rood and Elizabeth Scherer of the Broward office and Abbe S. Rifkin of the Miami-Dade office also applied.
Lorena Mastrarrigo was the only assistant public defender to show interest. She is with the Broward office.
Other public agency applicants include Haccord Curry Jr., assistant general counsel at the state Department of Juvenile Justice in Fort Lauderdale, and Paul D. Eichner, chief legal counsel at the Broward County Health Department.
Rhoda Sokoloff, a private Fort Lauderdale attorney who lost a circuit court race in the August primary to former judge Julio E. Gonzalez, also applied. She also ran unsuccessfully in 2010.
Another notable attorney is consumer advocate Charles A. Morehead III, a partner at Moody, Jones, Ingino & Morehead, and a past president of the Broward County Bar Association's trial lawyer section.
Applicants at Fort Lauderdale firms include Michele M. Ricca of Boyd, Richards, Parker & Colonelli, Gerard Williams at Nichols, Williams & Julian and Richard Sachs of Berman, Kean & Riguera. Max Soren is at Wintter & Associates in Hollywood.
Solo practitioner applicants include Elizabeth G. Daugherty, Jonathan Kasen, Scott Mager, all of Fort Lauderdale, Jorge Hurado of Coral Springs and former Davie Mayor Thomas Truex.
