There were a few bloopers as the U.S, Supreme Court released its decision on President Barack Obama’s health care overhaul.
Chomping at the bit, the office of Florida Chief Financial Officer Jeff Atwater put out a news release minutes after the complex decision was made public.
Atwater heralded the decision declaring the Affordable Care Act unconstitutional. He denounced the law as “this overreaching piece of legislation.” The Republican Cabinet member added, “Government interference in the marketplace would have had a devastating impact on free market competitive forces, consumer choice, and individual investment — undermining the American economy and further increasing dependence on entitlements.”
But the court actually went the other way on the all-important individual mandate.
Atwater’s staff quickly issued two more emails advising everyone to disregard its 10:10 a.m. statement when news agencies were still trying to figure out the complex opinion.
