A general magistrate and four lawyers have been nominated to fill a county court seat once occupied by Miami-Dade Circuit Judge Rosa Figarola.
The five who made the second-to-last round of picks are Miami Beach lawyer David Alschuler, Brinkley & Henry partner Tanya Brinkley of Miami, Donald Cannava with the state Department of Children and Families, Assistant Public Defender Ivonne Cuesta (who’s also running for a judicial seat) and Miami-Dade General Magistrate Steven Lieberman.
Those who did not make the cut were Miami lawyers Merling Barbara Amaro, Rachel Dooley and Julio M. Gomez; Assistant Attorney General Carlos Guzman; Broward prosecutor Michael Jones; North Miami attorney Gordon Murray; Coral Gables lawyer Carmelo Palomino and Parker & Maloney partner Jonathan H. Parker of Miami Beach.
Also left out were Yadira Pedraza with the general magistrate’s child support office, Miami lawyer John Rodriguez, Miami-Dade court counsel Alan Taylor and Miami attorney Martin Zilber.
Figarola’s spot opened up when Gov. Rick Scott moved her to the circuit bench in August. The Judicial Nominating Commission released the list of nominees Monday.
