After elevating Judge Rosa Figarola to the Miami-Dade Circuit bench, Gov. Rick Scott will soon get another pick to fill her old seat.
The Judicial Nominating Commission released the list of 17 applicants Tuesday, which mostly includes lawyers in Miami-Dade, a Broward prosecutor and a general magistrate.
On the list are Miami Beach lawyer David Alschuler, Miami lawyer Merling Barbara Amaro, Brinkley & Henry partner Tanya Brinkley of Miami, Donald Cannava with the state Department of Children and Families, Assistant Public Defender Ivonne Cuesta, who also is running for a judicial seat, and Miami lawyer Rachel Dooley.
Also included are Miami lawyer Julio M. Gomez, Assistant Attorney General Carlos Guzman, Broward prosecutor Michael Jones, Miami-Dade General Magistrate Steven Lieberman, North Miami attorney Gordon Murray, Coral Gables lawyer Carmelo Palomino and Parker & Maloney partner Jonathan H. Parker of Miami Beach.
Additionally, there’s Yadira Pedraza with the Office of General Magistrate Child Support, Miami lawyer John Rodriguez, Miami-Dade court counsel Alan Taylor and Miami attorney Martin Zilber.
The JNC will narrow the list to six at most and send the names to the governor for a final decision.
