A six-person list split evenly between county court judges and attorneys has been sent to Gov. Rick Scott for his next Miami-Dade circuit court appointment.
The list includes Miami-Dade County Court Judges Victoria Brennan, Lisa Walsh and Deborah White-Labora, as well as attorneys Miguel de la O, Michael Hanzman and Richard Hersch.
Brennan serves in the domestic violence division, Walsh is a civil court judge, and White-Labora presides over criminal cases.
De la O ran for retiring Circuit Judge Judith Kreeger’s open circuit seat last year, but her early resignation short-circuited his campaign and left the opening to be filled by gubernatorial appointment.
He is ramping up a campaign for judge in 2012 and held a kickoff at his home Saturday.
Hanzman is of counsel to Ackerman Link & Sartory, where he handles securities arbitration, complex commercial litigation and class actions. He also has served as a mediator in tobacco and DuPont Benlate cases.
Hersch is managing partner of criminal defense firm Hersch & Talisman.
The appointee will replace Circuit Judge Maynard “Skip” Gross, who died at 70 on Jan. 12 after spending most of his 17 years on the bench in family court.
