Jailed NFL football star Plaxico Burress hasn’t received special treatment from law enforcement since shooting himself in the leg at a Manhattan nightclub two years ago.
And Burress isn’t catching any breaks from his lender, either.
The former New York Giants wide receiver, whose request for work release was denied two months into a two-year prison sentence for attempted criminal possession of a weapon, has been hit with a foreclosure action by Deutsche Bank for his Lighthouse Point mansion in northern Broward County. The bank, which seeks $3.34 million from Burress and his wife, Tiffany, filed the action on Jan. 26 in Broward Circuit Court.
Telephone calls placed to attorney Ron Rice, who represents the bank, were not immediately returned.
Burress paid $4 million — with $2.8 million of the purchase price covered by the bank’s loan — for the 2249 NE 26th St. mansion in September 2005. It is currently assessed by Broward County’s property appraiser at $2.34 million.
Burress’s agent Drew Rosenhaus of Miami did not immediately return calls seeking comment.
Only 10 months after catching the game-winning touchdown for the Giants in the 2008 Super Bowl, Burress accidentally shot himself in the leg and became another example of a professional athlete with a gun problem. The Giants released him after the incident.
If Burress continues to behave himself while incarcerated, he could resume his football career in the 2011 season. He’ll be eligible in July to again apply for work release, according to the New York State Department of Correctional Services.
Another example of a violent criminal.
Gosh. He'll lose his $4M house?
Wow. Perhaps shooting people and being a gangbanger didn't work out well for him.
