Solomon has filed to run for the Broward County Court seat being vacated by Judge Steven Shutter. This is the first time she has attempted to become a judge. "I thought it was important that I waited — that I had a good solid career behind me before I ran or filed," Solomon said in an interview. And is she ready now? "The timing is right for me. I think I’m balanced and qualified," Solomon said. "It’s a very good fit for me right now." Solomon spent 12 years as a prosecutor, moving up to handle murder cases. At the public defender’s office, she started with murder cases before heading the juvenile division, then major crimes. She has served as chief assistant public defender in county court for about four years and is an adjunct professor at her alma mater, Nova Southeastern University law school. Solomon will challenge Plantation attorney Roshawn Banks for the seat. Banks, former president of the T.J. Reddick Bar Association, filed in April. Mindy Solomon started as a prosecutor, then moved to the public defender’s office. Now the lawyer of 27 years wants to finish her legal service to Broward County as a judge.
